The Lead

The lead is (arguably) the most important part of a news story. It is the first paragraph, one sentence, and should tell the most interesting and important parts of the story in less than 35 words. However, the one sentence and 35-word rules are not set in stone, so long as the lead justifies breaking them.

I'm pretty good at leads, and I thought that would be a nice way to introduce you to my blog.

"McKenzie, a senior communication major at SUU, is an ambitious yet sometimes insecure woman preparing to graduate college and break into print journalism as a reporter, with the goal of becoming an editor at a reputed daily."

Ok, that was 37 words. It's do-able.

This blog is intended to let my family and friends keep tabs on my adventures without the hassle of signing up on a social networking site. I have unfortunately decided to set this thing up during my sprint to the end of the semester, meaning this is all I have time for now, but updates will follow.

Upcoming coverage includes:

  • The story behind my articles (1 & 2) covering a major fire in Cedar City
  • My PAM Conference presentation in my Honor's class and my plans for an Honors trip
  • Important life decisions
  • My Christmas list
